I’m using a structure prompt today — something I’ve never heard of, but seemed intriguing. It’s called San-San, a Chinese poetry form that means three-three. The threes refer to the use of repetition of image or phrase – three different images or phrases each repeated twice. The poem also has a specific rhyme scheme — abcabdcd.
I thought it might be fun to play with this form to bring to life an encounter I had one morning this week with a Robin, that quintessential herald of Spring.
Loudly Orange
From over my shoulder, flying loudly orange
First scout, Robin-of-Spring,’ pulled up short, brown
Wings wide, lighting and locking eyes adoringlywith me! – likely too loud and orange, my boring
old jacket thrown on, robbin’ spring hands down
of some of its color, its clamor, its hue and cry!Whatever it was, his eyes locked imploringly
‘You’re so orange, I thought I would try.© 2016 – Laurel Archer
