Cinquain Refrains

I’ve not posted in a long while, but Advent is always an inviting season that draws me to slow down, reflect and write. So I poked a couple of friends – Karen and Denice, to see if they’d write with me; a fertile conversation helps me write. The consensus was however, keep it gentle and flexible because we’re all feeling so cooked by COVID these days.

So we settled on a simple poetic form called a cinquain. It only requires 5 lines. The first four lines expand in line length and then one final line ends with the same length as the first line. So, the syllables in the lines are: 2,4,6,8,2. We’ve taken a list of words supplied by an Instagram site to provide Advent themed prompts, but other than that, it’s wide open.

We’ll post irregularly — again, a gentle and flexible. If this gives you a little creative break during Advent — follow along or write your own. We’re moving Toward Christmas and we’re just wanting to listen well.

Word prompt: Promise

Memo:
Your promises.
Fulfilled – check. Unfulfilled…
Could you update us? I’m feeling
anxious.
