There’s so much advice is out there, maybe you’re getting tired of it. So if you’re looking for a kinder posture to keep, try this:
Forget the Ant
In this season
consider the Robin
who naturally practices
social distancing,
never allows anyone to get too close;
does not gather at the feeder;
(because the worm is sustaining
for the early bird); sings happily alone
and is still a harbinger of hope;
reaching for Spring,
rather than storing for Winter.Try it

when you’re out walking.
She won’t let you get any closer
than maybe two metres,
won’t stay still for a selfie.
But she’ll lead you
on a merry chase,
sing for you,
and show you how
to share the Common
between you.
Photo: I’ve been trying on and off for days to get a picture of a Robin — you’d think it would be easy but it isn’t — they won’t even look at you. Of course, if you have a camera with a big fat long lens…sure, easy.
We can learn so much from nature and especially the Robin who models social distancing. Thank you for this lovely poem, Laurel.
