Love for the Journey

Before we were married, John wrote me a lullaby.  It was comforting, soothing, and beautiful.  On this Valentine’s Day, to celebrate that gift of love to me and the way we used it over the years as a reminder of God’s love, I share it here.  But since our journey has spanned over 25 years, I wrote some additional stanzas, as a way to echo back that love.  Thank you John for your love and faithfulness.

Look into the Night Sky

Look into the night sky
see the stars up there
Worlds without number
your Father put them there

Planets that are spinning
worlds without a care
For the Ancient of Days
Is everywhere

So why do you tremble
Why do you fear?
For the Lord of All
The universe is here

Remember that his love for you
is greater than the stars
He will never leave you
He’ll be always there.

Our journey on was altered
We traveled rough terrain
Our eyes were often weary
But laughter kept us sane

We have seen the desert
And have welcomed rain
Enough to see us carry on
When ones we love were strained

We prayed alone, together
And waited much the same
Answers are not always
The ones relieving pain

Instead our hearts were woven
into a pattern plain
Love like starlit threads shine through
Comfort, heal, sustain.

Refrain:

So why do you tremble
Why do you fear?
For the Lord of All
The universe is here

Remember that his love for you
is greater than the stars
He will never leave you
He’ll be always there.

He will never leave you
He’ll be always here.

Stanzas highlighted above comprise John’s original lullaby. Art work also by John from a Christmas Letter several years ago.  We did search diligently for a recording of the lullaby that we know exists, but could not find it.  If you see us in person though, we’ll sing it for you…probably.  Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone — don’t let marketing make you stingy with your love today — as the song goes:  Let your love flow!…like a bird on a wing…oh let your love flow…to all living things… (and yes, that will be in your head all day long now).
