Dec 14 – Ruth

My thoughts wander back to Moab
as I stoop to gather fallen grain.
Will there be enough here for two widows
from this land, this people? I’ve chosen.

As I stoop to gather fallen grain
I’m certain there is more to glean today
from this land, this people; I’ve chosen.
Eyebrows raised, Naomi listens, considers.

I’m certain there is more to glean today.
He scanned the field until his eyes found me.
Eyebrows raised, Naomi listens, considers.
Boaz is a kind man, so I trust Naomi’s plan.

He scanned the field until his eyes found me
easing my anxiety about last night.
Boaz is a kind man, so I trust Naomi’s plan:
my life, my future redeemed at the gate.

Easing my anxiety about everything,
no more wandering back to Moab.
My life, my future redeemed at the gate;
more than enough here for two widows.

It is always fascinating to me to work creatively on a shared theme with another person.  Often, when you bring them together they are more the the sum of the parts.  To me, the multi colored seeds of Kevin’s pastel work ties in to Ruth’s longing for enough in the poem.  The color expands the idea of the seed and the blessings that are coming from it.  Thank you Kevin for sharing this post with me.

Note: This Advent series is using The Jesse Tree, a liturgical ‘tool’ to help guide and direct spiritual reflection.  Each day leading up to Advent, we  consider one Bible story, or character, beginning from creation, following chronologically (more or less) right up until the birth of Jesus. It’s a way to review the wide sweep of God’s pursuit of humankind across history.
